LIAMforum is a meeting place for thought leaders involved in sustainable resource development, with a focus on inspiring and empowering the next generation to get involved and take actionable, results-oriented steps to help tackle key sustainable resource development challenges facing the world.
LIAMforum provides a platform for young people to discuss their ideas, vision and role in tackling the challenges we face today. A platform for thought leaders and participants from academia, industry, think tanks, multi-lateral institutions and governments, to share their ideas and concerns with, and listen to, the next generation.
LIAMforum aims to help close the gap between the disengaged and the engaged.
The natural resources sector, including energy, mining, forestry, agriculture, etc., faces a crisis unless it finds a way for Gen Zs to get involved. The LIAMforum highlights the essential role Gen Zs will undoubtedly play in the transition to a more sustainable, greener world and act to help change the perception young people have of the sector. The LIAMforum will bring into focus the importance of the natural resources sector, governments and academic institutions, to collaborate & develop effective & attractive incentives to help Gen Zs embark on purpose-driven careers to help make the world a better place.
There is a pressing need to involve the next generation in the transition to a sustainable society. Their passion & talents are urgently needed. They can, and undoubtedly will, contribute to finding brilliant solutions to the challenges we face.
The LIAMforum aims to reach out to all youth, not just those who have already shown an interest in the sector. Close the gap between the disengaged and the engaged, and focus on inspiring and empowering the next generation to get involved and take actionable, results-oriented steps to help tackle key sustainable resource development challenges facing the world.
LIAMforum23 will be held exclusively online between 3-6 October 2023.
Meet Liam
The spark for LIAMforum was lit by Liam Jacob Zisman (2002-2022).
Liam thrived during his time at Brock University, which was cut short in the midst of his first year as a student in the Environmental Geoscience programme (B.Sc., class of 2025). He aspired to help build a better, more just and environmentally responsible world, where social and environmental issues would be sustainably addressed.
Liam would have greatly enjoyed the ideas and energy present at LIAMforum. His presence accompanies us.
The inaugural LIAMforum 2022 featured 112 speakers & panel members from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Indonesia, Israel, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States. Approximately 500 participants from 59 countries attended the online LIAMforum, 3-7 October 2022.
The 2023 LIAMforum featured 130 speakers, 29 sessions and was attended by over 800 participants.
